BARTOLI LOSES SEMI

Victoria Azarenka has defeated Marion Bartoli of France in the semi final of the China Open at Beijing. Azarenka won the match in the straight sets by 6-4, 6-2. Azarenka carried on her brilliant form in this match as well and she didn’t have much difficulty in knocking Bartoli out of the tournament.

Azarenka won the match in 1 hour and 34 minutes. This was the 12th match between these two players and Azarenka has won nine of them.

Bartoli didn’t look focussed at all and she struggled throughout the match. Her forehand shots were very poor. In the first set, she didn’t play that badly, but, her performance was pretty ordinary in the second set. In the post match interview, Bartoli admitted that she needs to work hard on her forehand shots. The Frenchwoman said, “It was not a good day for me. I started the match well, but, after losing the first set, I got pressurised and lost my composure. I didn’t play my forehand shots well enough and I will have to work hard on it.”

“Azarenka is in great touch and she was again superb today. In the second set, it was not easy to stop her. She played some excellent shots and took the game beyond my reach.”

On the other hand, Azarenka was delighted to have reached the finals. The Belarusian superstar said, “I was feeling a bit of pressure in the first set, but, after getting the breakthrough in the last game of the first set, I got relieved. In the second set, Bartoli gave me a number of chances and I made use of them. It’s nice to enter the finals with such a convincing win.”

In the final, Azarenka will take on Maria Sharapova of Russia.
