Marion Bartoli has defeated Klara Zakopalova of Czech Republic in the opening round of Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship. Bartoli won the match by 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

This was Bartoli’s fourth victory in 7 matches against Zakopalova.

Zakopalova had defeated Bartoli in the Shenzen Open earlier in the season. So, the Frenchwoman took her revenge with this win.

In the next match, Bartoli will face the American superstar Serena Williams who has been given top seed in this competition.

In the match against Zakopalova, Bartoli didn’t start well. Her serve was broken in the second game of the opening set. Towards the end of the set, Zakopalova got one more breakthrough and grabbed the set by 6-3.

Bartoli was struggling in the second set as well. She was trailed by 3-4 at one point of time. But, with the help of breakthroughs in the 8th and the 10th game, she won the set and came back into the match.

The final set was completely dominated by Bartoli. The first couple of games went with the serve, but, after that, Zakopalova wasn’t able to win even one game. Bartoli won the last five games on the trot and secured her victory.

In the post match interview, Bartoli said, “Honestly speaking, my performance in the opening set and in the initial parts of the second set was really bad. But, I am pleased with the way I turned things around.”

When asked about her next match against Serena Williams, Bartoli said, “Serena is a top player. When she plays at her best, it’s very difficult to defeat her. It’s going to be a huge challenge. I will try my best and hopefully, I would manage to go past her.”

Serena had got a bye in the first round. So, the match against Bartoli will be her first match in the tournament.
