When she defeated the world’s top ranked female tennis player Victoria Azarenka in the Quarter Final match of the Sony Ericsson Open, it was believed that Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli would go all the way and claim the title but there was a rude shock waiting for her in the Semi Final in the form of Agnieszka Radwanska, who defeated her in straight sets to enter the final of the tournament.

Radwanska defeated former world number one Venus Williams in straight sets before setting up the meeting with Bartoli and when it seemed that the seventh seed would take the match by the scruff of its neck, she managed to let go of her control over the proceedings and Radwanska duly took advantage to enter the Final of the tournament. After her match with the world number one, Azarenka praised the efforts and determination of the Frenchwoman but all that seemed to be missing from her game in the match against Radwanska and that cost Marion Bartoli dear.

The polish player Radwanska did well in the match, it must be said, not allowing Bartoli any time to settle into the game and did not let her status as one of the foremost women’s tennis player get the edge over her mentally. Having ended the 26 match unbeaten run of the world number one Azarenka just in the previous round of matches, Bartoli is bound to feel disappointed at the performance she put up against the Polish player.

However, speaking at the post match press meet, Marion Bartoli admitted that the better player on the day won and she had no hard feelings about it, just disappointment. She is looking forward to the French Open now which is slated to begin in a month’s time and Bartoli wants to win her home Grand Slam.
