BARTOLI THROUGH IN RODGERS CUP

Marion Bartoli has defeated Shuai Peng of China in the second round of the Rogers Cup. Bartoli won the match easily in the straight sets by 6-1, 6-3. Bartoli, who is the highest ranked French player in the official rankings of WTA, played with a lot of dominance in the match. She played some exquisite backhand shots and broke the rhythm of the Chinese player.

Bartoli was in an aggressive mood right from the start of the match. She was on the verge of breaking the service of Peng in the very first game of the match, but, Peng was able to save the breakpoint. But, the Chinese player couldn’t hold her service in the third game and the fifth game and Bartoli got two breakthroughs consecutively to take a lead of 4-1. The French star held her service in the sixth game to make the score 5-1.

Peng had to hold her service in the next game to extend the set, but, Bartoli was not in a mood to give any chance to Peng. She broke Peng’s service for the third time in the set to win the first set by 6-1. In the second set, Peng started well and got a breakthrough in the very first game. But, she couldn’t keep that lead for too long and Bartoli broke her service in the fourth and the sixth game to take a lead of 4-2. Bartoli kept that lead till the end to win the second set by 6-3.

In the post match press conference to the majority of the latest sport news websites, Bartoli said that she made some mistakes in the match, but, she is happy that those mistakes didn’t prove costly for her. In the third round, Bartoli will play against Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic.

Asked who she was tipping for the US Open, Bartoli said that she didn’t think you could go too far wrong with a bet on Andy Murray – with him having defeated both Djokovic and Federer on the way to the Olympic title, and Nadal ruling himself out through injury.
