BARTOLI THROUGH IN US

Marion Bartoli has defeated Jamie Hampton of USA in the opening round of the US Open. Bartoli won the match in the straight sets by 6-3, 7-6(5). Bartoli won the first set with ease, bit, in the second set, she was given a run for her money by the American youngster. With this victory, Bartoli cruised into the second round where she will compete against Romina Oprandi of Switzerland.

Bartoli was off to a very good start in the match. She managed to sneak a breakthrough in the very first game of the first set and then, held her service in the next game to take a lead of 2-0. The next six games went with the serve and Bartoli was ahead by 5-3 at the end of the eighth game. Hampton needed to hold her service in the 9th game to extend the set, but, she didn’t manage to do that. Bartoli wrapped up the set by breaking Hampton’s service in the 9th game.

Bartoli continued dominating Hampton in the earlier part of the second set as well. The Frenchwoman broke Hampton’s service in the second game and won the first three games consecutively to take a lead of 3-0. But, after that, the local player tightened her game a bit and made a fantastic come back in the match. Hampton got a breakpoint in the 7th game and she capitalized on that to make the score 4-3. She levelled the score by holding her service in the next game. Both the players held their service in the next four games and the scores were tied at 6-6. The tie breaker was also very tight, but, Bartoli used her experience to good effect and won the tie breaker to seal the match.
