With this wild card, all the formers players can be seen once again on the court playing against each other. So, the event is going to be a big bang for the tennis lovers as well as the fans of these players.

“Women should the the same prizing sum!” says Bartoli

Marion Bartoli has said that the women should also get the same prizing sum that the men get in the game of tennis.

As far as the Grand Slams are concerned, there is no difference in the prizing sum of the men and the women. The winners and the runners-up from both the categories get the same amount of money, but, it’s not the case in the other competitions.

Some critics believe equal prizing sum for all would not be fair to the men because they have to play 5 setters instead of women who always play only 3 setters. If the women have to get as much as the men get, they should also be asked to play 5 setters.

Bartoli, however, doesn’t like that idea. She reckons that a female’s body is not built to take the toll of 5 sets. She, in fact, wants a reduction in the no. of sets in male’s category.

According to Bartoli, playing 5 sets regularly is one of the main reasons why some of the male tennis stars are getting injured quite regularly.

Yesterday, Bartoli was quoted as saying, “Look at somebody like Rafa or even Andy for that matter. These guys have had frequent injuries and it gives you a feeling that playing tennis at professional level is extremely tough.”

“Playing a 5 setter in the title round is fine, but, in the entire competition, it’s pretty tough on the body.”

“So, rather than increasing the no. of sets for women, I think it should be the other way around. There should be a reduction in the no. of sets for men.”

Bartoli was delivering a speech in an event in London where Andy Murray’s mother Judy Murray was also present.

Becker Believes Federer Is Best Player In Game

Boris Becker, who himself is considered as a legend, has said that the game of tennis has not seen a better player than Roger Federer till date.

Federer lost yet another final last week when Novak Djokovic of Serbia got better of him at All England Club in 5 sets.

Becker was present during that match as Djokovic’s coach and he was pretty impressed with the way Federer kept fighting and took it down to the wire despite not being in the best of rhythms that day.

Speaking in one of his recent interviews about that match, the former German player said, “Well, as far as I am concerned, I am yet to see a better player than Roger and I don’t think anybody else would have seen a better player than him because he’s the best till date. I admire and salute the man not only for his skills, but, his temperament as well.”

“Clearly, he was not having the greatest of days against Novak, but, his fighting spirit was phenomenal and that’s what the players coming through can learn from him. He is a fierce competitor who never gives up.”

When asked about Federer’s failure to secure victories in the title round of the tournaments of late, Becker said, “I don’t think that’s a concern for him. He doesn’t need to prove anything to the world now. He has won almost each and every trophy that a player can dream of. Not winning another one is not going to have any effect on his greatness.”

Federer has won the Grand Slam trophies more number of times than any other male tennis player so far. He has won 17 Grand Slams, 3 more than what Rafael Nadal and Pete Sampras have won.

Tsonga Liked Everywhere

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is liked by the spectators everywhere in the world because of his style. He is very entertaining on the court not only while playing, but, in his celebrations as well. People would not have forgot the way he had celebrated after getting better of the grass court king Roger Federer in the quarter final round of the Wimbledon Championships in 2011.

Tsonga was trailed by a couple of sets during that match, but, he bounced back from there and put up a thrilling show in the last three sets to knock Federer out of his familiar territory.

However, one thing that always leaves Tsonga’s fans disappointed is his inconsistency. He always tends to fall before big accomplishments. In many Grand Slam tournaments, he has started well and has dominated till the Round of 4, but, has fallen after that. He has no Slam singles title under his belt till date and that’s a shame for somebody of his calibre.

During the 2012 season, Tsonga had got himself into the top 5 in the world rankings. He was breathing down the neck of the Big 4 and was tipped by many experts as the world no. 1 in the making, but, he dropped down quite significantly thereafter and presently, he is at the 17th position.

Tsonga has got too big a support staff at the moment. He has been working under two head coaches since October 2013 and that might be going against him. You need to be clear headed as a player if you have to succeed at the senior level consistently. Two coaches might be confusing for a player at times.

In total, Tsonga has featured in 33 games this season out of which he has lost 12 which is way too many.

Marion Bartoli’s countryman, Richard Gasquet, will take on the former World no. 1 Roger Federer in the pre quarter final round of the ongoing Sony Open tennis tournament.

Both the players are in red hot form which has made this match a really interesting prospect.

There are 13 matches played between Gasquet and Federer on the tour so far out of which the former has won only two and neither of those two wins has come on quick surfaces. Both of them have come on slow, clay courts.

But, one must admit that the time has changed now. Federer is no longer unbeatable which he used to be 3 years back. Yes, he has been back in form this season, but, he is still some distance away from his best which means he can be brought under pressure.

Off course, the past record plays a little bit in the minds of the players, but, that’s not everything. The current form is what matters the most.

Speaking in the pre match press conference, Federer also admitted that the match was going to be pretty difficult for him.

The Swiss maestro who is the 5th ranked player in the world at this point of time said, “Richard is a class act and he always seems to have that extra time while playing the shots. He doesn’t have too many weaknesses.”

“I don’t think that the surface over here is that quick and that’s something which he would like. The wind will also be there. So, overall, I would say it’s a tough challenge for me. But, hopefully, all go well.”

Federer’s performance on his serve in his last match was just outstanding. It was after a while that he served with such dominance. Gasquet was not too behind either though. He had also banged in a good number of aces against Kevin Anderson in the Round of 32. So, the stage is set for an exciting contest.

If you are a Marion Bartoli fan and you are thinking that your favourite player would come out of retirement and start playing professional tennis again, there is some bad news for you. The Frenchwoman has made it clear that she is very happy with her post retirement life and she has no plans to be back playing.

Bartoli had stunned the entire tennis world by announcing her retirement just a few weeks after lifting the Wimbledon singles trophy. She participated in a couple of tournaments after her Wimbledon glory and then, called it a day all of a sudden saying that her body couldn’t take the pressure of playing the game at this level any more. However, a few days after that, she had hinted that she might think of making a comeback at some point of time in future, but, the statements that she has given in her most recent interview suggests that her fans would not be able to see her playing again.

Talking to the reporters yesterday, Bartoli said, “I was struggling with so many things towards the end of my career, but, I never let the people know about them.”

“Now, after retiring, I think there is much more calmness in my life. I am a very happy person at the moment.”

Everybody knows that Bartoli has always been very close to her father. He is the man whom she credits the most for whatever she has managed to achieve in her career so far. But, the Frenchwoman wasn’t that close to her mother during her childhood days.

According to Bartoli, her mother used to pay more attention to her brother than her when she was a kid.

When asked about her mother, the current Wimbledon champion said, “She couldn’t give me that much time when I was growing up, but, my father has always been there for me.”
