Marion Bartoli will face Vesna Dolonc of Serbia in the second round of the Australian Open on Wednesday.

Bartoli won her first round match against Anabel Medina Garrigues quite comfortably. She defeated Garrigues in the straight sets by 6-2, 6-4. Bartoli was in fine form and she made the match one sided. She completely outplayed her Spanish opponent with her power game.

On the other hand, Dolonc had to toil quite hard for victory in her opening match. She defeated the local player Olivia Rogowska by 5-7, 7-5, 8-6. The scorecard itself suggests that the match was mighty close and could have gone either way. But, it was Dolonc who kept her cool and eventually managed to pull off the win.

Dolonc had played well in the qualifying tournament, but, she didn’t manage to show the same kind of form in the first round match.

After defeating Rogowska, Dolonc said, “It was a close match. I made quite a few errors in the last couple of sets, but, fortunately, I managed to pull it back towards the end. But, I can’t be making so many mistakes in the upcoming matches; otherwise, I will have to pay the price.”

On the other hand, Bartoli was delighted after securing an easy victory over Anabel Medina Garrigues. The Frenchwoman said, “I knew that Anabel is a fierce competitor and she would keep fighting all the way through. So, I tried to be aggressive.”

“I am physically stronger than her and that also helped. It’s a great win. If you win your first match in a Grand Slam in this manner, it gives a big boost to your confidence. I am looking forward to the next match.  Hopefully, I would show the same kind of intensity on Wednesday as well.”
