With the help of fine performances by a couple of key players, France has defeated Kazakhstan in a Davis Cup clash.

Marion Bartoli and Alize Cornet delivered in the third and the fourth match of the clash and by virtue of their wins, France took a decisive lead of 3-1 and secured two points from this clash.

Bartoli beat Yaroslava Shvedova in the third match. Bartoli won that match in the straight sets by 6-4, 6-3 to give her team a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth match, it was Cornet’s turn. With an easy win over Ksenia Pervak, she secured France’s win. Pervak got defeated in the straight sets by 2-6, 5-7.

Bartoli was representing France in the Fed Cup after approximately 9 years and this proved to be a tremendous comeback for her.

The skipper of the French team, Amelie Mauresmo, was the main reason why Bartoli was called back in the squad. The captain wanted her in the side at any cost and her decision was absolutely correct. Bartoli did prove her worth for the side.

Talking to the reporters after the clash, Mauresmo said, “Marion’s recent form had been very good. She was feeling confident and that’s why, I wanted her back in the side. She was absolutely fantastic in the third match She helped us earn two vital points.”

On the other hand, Bartoli was also looking ecstatic after France’s victory.  She said, “It’s a very important win for us and I am glad that I contributed in this. Winning matches for your country is always special.”

“I was playing in Fed Cup after a long time, but, there was not much pressure on me. The skipper told me to just enjoy my game and I did the same.”
