Marion Bartoli faced the full power of Victoria Azarenka as the latter overcame a strong start and a lead from the former to power into the semifinals of the Sydney International.

The Belarusian allowed the Frenchwoman to gain a 2-5 advantage in the first set. On a windy day on the center court, the Frenchwoman got an early lead, but Azarenka fought back late in the game. She won five consecutive games to win the set 7-5. At the break, it was evident that Bartoli was frustrated. She slammed her racquet against the bag repeatedly.

At the beginning of the second set, however, it looked like she had moved past her emotional outburst as she started strongly. Too bad for Bartoli, however, was the fact that she was matched evenly by the world no. 3. Through the middle of the next set, play was stopped briefly as there was a power cut, but the game resumed quite quickly.
