Bartoli shock defeat in Brussels

Fans at the outdoor clay courts of the Royal Primerose Tennis Club in Brussels, Belgium, saw one of the competitions biggest uspets during the Brussels open. Amazingly second seed French power house, Marion Bartoli, crashed out of the Brussels Open in spectacular style. The world number eight was toppled by the 21-year-old talented Pole competitor, Urszula Radwanska, in the second round brawl of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Tour event.

The 90th ranked Pole showed her amazing clay-court skills to register one of the biggest upsets of the tournament so far. She displayed glimpses of her world number three elder sister, Agnieszka Radwanska, throughout the matchup against Bartoli and eventually disposed of one of the hot favourites for winning the Brussels title. Radwanska was facing the eighth ranked Frenchwoman for the first time in her professional career and didn’t take long to get under the skin of her. She overcame the early resistance from the second seed French and then went on all guns blazing to rocket away to victory in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

The twenty seven year, French star would have been hoping for better coming in as a hot favourite to lift the trophy and will be again banded around as a possible victor in the upcoming French Open. Bartoli will no doubt have the crowd behind her in Paris as she is palying in her home country, but this shock defeat will no doubt show a sign of weakness. After losing in the semi-finals last year the world number seven will be hoping a good performance could lead to her first ever grand slam victory, which would shoot her up the seeds for the upcoming Grass court tournament in Wimbledon.
