Marion Bartoli’s countryman, Richard Gasquet, will take on the former World no. 1 Roger Federer in the pre quarter final round of the ongoing Sony Open tennis tournament.

Both the players are in red hot form which has made this match a really interesting prospect.

There are 13 matches played between Gasquet and Federer on the tour so far out of which the former has won only two and neither of those two wins has come on quick surfaces. Both of them have come on slow, clay courts.

But, one must admit that the time has changed now. Federer is no longer unbeatable which he used to be 3 years back. Yes, he has been back in form this season, but, he is still some distance away from his best which means he can be brought under pressure.

Off course, the past record plays a little bit in the minds of the players, but, that’s not everything. The current form is what matters the most.

Speaking in the pre match press conference, Federer also admitted that the match was going to be pretty difficult for him.

The Swiss maestro who is the 5th ranked player in the world at this point of time said, “Richard is a class act and he always seems to have that extra time while playing the shots. He doesn’t have too many weaknesses.”

“I don’t think that the surface over here is that quick and that’s something which he would like. The wind will also be there. So, overall, I would say it’s a tough challenge for me. But, hopefully, all go well.”

Federer’s performance on his serve in his last match was just outstanding. It was after a while that he served with such dominance. Gasquet was not too behind either though. He had also banged in a good number of aces against Kevin Anderson in the Round of 32. So, the stage is set for an exciting contest.

Seles and her Yugoslav partner were successful in beating the US pair in the third edition of the Hopman Cup in 1991 and the Frenchwoman Bartoli is looking forward to the mixed team event of the ITF with prize money of $ 1 million, in which her partner is Richard Gasquet, the number 19 men’s tennis player.

Bartoli has been training very hard for the tournament, working on her fitness as well as speed in order to keep pace with the pacy Richard Gasquet and has been sweating for hours at the State Tennis Centre.
